During this training session, specifically designed for Judges, prosecutors and defense counsel, victim-witness advocates and other Court personnel, ASET will:

  • Describe Autism Spectrum Disorders, with a special emphasis on those characteristics and challenges unique to this population, which can make interactions in interviews or Court appearances difficult;
  • Provide strategies for effective interviews to create a fair, just and less stressful experience for the person affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder; discuss in detail pre-interview information gathering; interviewing techniques and challenges, and investigative tips for cases involving persons with Autism who are victims of crime;
  • Discuss the importance of pre-planning for Court appearances, and provide a number of suggestions for doing so;
  • Explore the potential challenges of Court testimony, and describe a number of ways to make it an easier process for the person with Autism
